Friday night shows canceled through July, at minimum
The July 10 edition of the Lakeside Music Series was cancelled Thursday afternoon due to concerns over the coronavirus.
The remaining shows in July also have cancelled. No timetable has been been set for the event’s return.
Flower Mound Mayor Steve Dixon determined he was no longer comfortable allowing the Lakeside Music Series to continue in light of the governor’s executive order on July 2.
That ruling prohibited outdoor gatherings of groups in excess of 10 people unless approved by the mayor.
“All over Texas, cities are seeing increased positive cases and hospitalizations,” Dixon explained. “Flower Mound included.”
As of Thursday, Flower Mound had reported 177 cases of coronavirus, up from around 60 cases in early June.
“Unfortunately, this is a year full of tough decisions that none of us want to make,” he said. “We all need to follow the governor’s orders right now and minimize gatherings.”
“We researched the matter extensively,” added Andrea Roy, the town’s director of economic development, “consulting with our surrounding communities and discussing it (at length) with our Emergency Management Staff.”
“We are disappointed,” said David Stewart, who spearheads the event for Lakeside DFW Land Ltd., “especially for those who enjoy the music, those who perform the music, and the businesses that benefit from the music.”
Social distancing protocols were in effect for the shows in June and July, and parking spaces on the north and south sides of the plaza were cordoned off to provide attendees with additional room to spread out.
Jennifer Perryman was scheduled to make a much anticipated first appearance in Lakeside on Friday, July 10.
