Bike with the Blue event benefits homeless teens

The first annual Bike with the Blue 5K Run and Bike Race filled Lakeside and surrounding streets with athletes of various ages on Saturday morning, May 15.

In addition to the 5K, the event featured bike races for kids 13 and under (.83 mile), for kids 14-19 (1.65 mile), for civilians (3.33 miles), and the Police Bike Race for bike units.

Proceeds from the event benefited Journey to Dream – Kyle’s Place, a transitional living program for homeless teens working towards independence.

Kyle’s Place is the only homeless shelter in Denton County to house and care for teens between 14-19 years old. While living at Kyle’s Place, teens work with family counselors, mentors who help with life skills, and have access to community resources.

As the images above indicate, the first Bike with the Blue event succeeded on multiple levels.

Next year’s Bike with the Blue is scheduled for Saturday, May 14.
