Community invited to Trails Clean-up event, Saturday, April 29

Join your neighbors and help beautify Lakeside at the Trails Clean-Up Event on Saturday, April 29 (9-10:30 am). In conjunction with the Keep Flower Mound Beautiful (KFMB) semi-annual Spring Trash-Off and Environmental Fair, anti-trash forces in Lakeside will gather near the entrance to the Lakeside Boardwalk across from Lakeside Tower (at the intersection of Loma Alta and Edgemere).

The cool temperatures this April have everyone enjoying the beautiful outdoors in and around Lakeside, on the Northshore Trail, and along the lakefront. Unfortunately, some visitors to the trails fail to pack out what they pack in. 

Everyone with a Lakeside connection is welcome at the Trails Clean-up. Long pants, closed-toe shoes, work clothes and work gloves are highly recommended. If you plan to attend, please email organizer Jane Allen with the number in your group.

“People have strong feelings for this community,” explained Jane Allen, who has spearheaded the Lakeside event since 2017, “and our pride in Lakeside is proven each time we get together to help keep it clean.”

This year, members of the Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association (DORBA) will be participating as well. DORBA’s crews work year-round to maintain all 22 miles of Northshore Trail, including trash removal. Their dedication to the trail and its natural beauty offers us all a shining example to follow.

Trash bags and trash grabbers will be made available to volunteers (while supplies last).

“It is quite special to see our neighbors around the trails making such an impact by removing discarded debris,” Allen said. 

“We have such an attractive neighborhood, it’s our duty in Lakeside to keep our part of Flower Mound especially beautiful,” Allen added. “As many of us have found, picking up trash alongside our neighbors is also a terrific way to meet people, spend time with your family, enjoy the outdoors, and invest time in our community.”

Immediately following the trash pick-up event in Lakeside, there will be a KFMB recycling event. Drive up to Flower Mound High School between 10 am to 1 pm and drop off your approved recyclable items at the designated stations. Bring household items (small appliances, small furniture), clothing and textiles, electronics, pens, pencils and markers, eyeglasses, plastic bags and other thin-film plastic, wire clothes hangers, books, medications (courtesy of FMPD). Note: Liquids of any sort, auto batteries, and tires will NOT be accepted.
