Guitar virtuoso Russ Hewitt will bring rumba flamenco rhythms and lightning-fast runs to the Lakeside Music Series on Friday, October 28.
Sandy Sue’s BBQ will be on site with their “Texas BBQ Done Right.” (The Great Australian Meat Pie Co. had to cancel.)
Hewitt’s “distinctive fusion of Latin and jazz themes stirred with a little underlying rock and roll attitude” (Michael Debbage of Mainly Piano) will either render you spellbound or lift you off the grass to dance.
What better way to spend what promises to be a beautiful fall Friday evening?
Hewitt, who won a silver Global Music Award and was nominated for three Grammys, has produced three CDs: Cielo Nocturne, Bajo El Sol, and Alma Vieja.
All received rave reviews from critics and music lovers alike.
Ronald Jackson of Smooth Jazz Vibes said Bajo El Sol “contains some of the most colorful, vibrant and exotic Latin/flamenco-style smooth jazz found on any shore.”
All of his studio efforts have attracted stellar musicians, including percussionist Raphael Padilla (Miami Sound Machine, Chris Isaak), drummer Walfredo Reyes Jr. (Santana, Steve Winwood, Chicago), bass player Bob Parr (Cher, Barry White), guitarist Alfredo Caceres (Gipsy Kings All-Stars) and most notably Larry Carlton who features on the delightfully easy grooving ‘North of Home’.
Attendees also are encouraged to bring a blanket or portable chairs.
The Lakeside Music Series brings free musical performances to The Shops at Lakeside on Friday nights through the fall (the third week in November).
J.R. Byrd performs next week. (For a schedule of upcoming performers, click here.)
