When Chant Duplantier first played Lakeside last July, he and bassist Jerry Smith Jr. mezmerized the audience with jazzy renditions of R&B standards from Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder to Hall and Oates and Steve Ray Vaughn.
Duplantier’s smooth voice and crazy guitar work was set off by Jerry Smith Jr.’s funky bass lines. Together, they gave Lakeside Plaza the feel of a jazz club.
The night’s finale, Prince’s “Purple Rain,” turned into a jam that ended with the Lakeside crowd roaring its approval. You won’t want to miss his return engagement.
