High lake levels force fireworks to new launch sites, create new watch locations
If you’re expecting to watch the City of Grapevine July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza from Lake Grapevine, Rockledge Park, Sunset Point, or other spots around Lakeside, start altering your plans now.
Blame Lake Grapevine’s unusually high water levels.
This year’s pyrotechnics will not be launched from the customary boat ramp location at Oak Grove Park, approximately 1.2 miles across the lake from Lakeside. That location remains submerged (lake levels are 15 ft. above normal as of July 1).
Grapevine officials flatly state on the city’s website, “Grapevine Lake and our lake parks have zero fireworks visibility and no access.”
But Grapevine has provided an alternative. Late last week, it was announced that the fireworks will be launched from higher ground near Great Wolf Lodge (about three miles south of Lakeside). Start time: 9:30 pm.
Prime viewing locations for the new launch site are located south of the dam along Hwy 26. Check out your best parking options for the Grapevine Extravaganza here.
Flower Mound also offers an excellent option. Independence Fest 2024 located at Bakersfield Park (only 2.5 miles from Lakeside) will feature a Pat Green concert starting at 8:15 pm. Fireworks will follow at 9:45. Read more about Flower Mound’s festivities here.
