“We love to walk around the neighborhood,” explained Roland Shepard of his strolls around Lakeside with wife Lynn, “but we usually don’t get very far before we start talking with neighbors.”
The Shepards’ painted yellow brick villa sits on Northwood just off Surrey and faces a triangular park that is nearly completely enclosed with new homes.
“It’s really looking like a neighborhood now,” said Shepard, who was the first homebuyer to sign a contract on a Darling villa at Lakeside in August 2013. “It’s come a long way in just a year.

The excitement over the single-family lots at Lakeside DFW continues to grow.
Together, the three home builders — American Legend, Darling, and Normandy — have sold 40 lots (as of the last week of January 2014).
That’s one-third of the 119 lots in Phase I. All of them sold prior to having a full complement of model homes open. (While the Normandy and American Legend models have been open for a month or more, Darling only expects to open their model home by the end of February).
The sales pace prompted lot developer JBGL Communities to move forward with Phase II, a 14.8-acre tract that will offer an additional 70 home sites. Completion of the lots is expected in the Fall of 2014.
The long-anticipated news has broken. Sales of lots at Lakeside have begun, starting with those for the 30-foot villas by Darling.
“Darling Homes has done a superb job of developing a new line of villa homes that embraces the Lakeside lifestyle,” said town planner Dan Quinto of Roaring Brook Development Corp.
Just seven weeks after receiving zoning approval, officials of Realty Capital Management today announced the first land sale at Lakeside DFW, the mixed-use development in Flower Mound.
The 23.88 acres in the northwest sector of the 150-acre site overlooking Lake Grapevine were purchased by a local land development company for the project’s first phase of single-family homes.
“American Legend Homes and Darling Homes are partnering with us,” said Jimmy Archie, managing director of Realty Capital Management.
