Lakeside DFW developers save trees
By Brian Scott | NBC 5 Denton County Reporter | Mar 14, 2014
Developers at Flower Mound’s Lakeside DFW are putting up big money to save hundreds of trees.
Leaders at Realty Capital relocated more than a 100 live oak trees from the site when construction first started on the 150-acre commercial and retail development on Lake Grapevine.
“We thought it’d be kind of a shame to have to wipe all those trees out,” said Managing Director Richard Myers.

Council hears plan for farmers market at Lakeside DFW
By Chris Roark | Flower Mound Leader | November 26, 2013
Lakeside DFW has become the first, and perhaps the only, development in Flower Mound to make its case for having a farmers market in town.
Brian Leek of Realty Capital made a pitch during a recent town council work session about why Lakeside DFW, a 150-acre mixed-use development is the right place for a farmers market. The project, which has already seen heavy construction in Phase I, is located at the intersection of FM 2499 and Lakeside Parkway.
“We’re convinced that a farmers market can be successful and will add to the value of our project,” Leek told the council, adding that the location could draw in residents from neighboring cities.

Flower Mound mixed-use development takes root
By Martha Deller | Fort Worth Business Press | December 9, 2013
For two decades, the Stewart family was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” to develop 150 acres on the northeast shore of Lake Grapevine in south Flower Mound.
As the town’s population multiplied, the city council rejected the Stewarts’ request in the mid-1990s to build a mixed-use development of residential, retail, restaurants, offices and other uses.

Flower Mound mixed-use project heads for vote

FLOWER MOUND — Peter P. Stewart was dove hunting with friends more than 40 years ago when he first trod the woods and farmland along Grapevine Lake’s eastern shore.
He was impressed by the natural beauty of the landscape and the dramatic sunsets reflected on the water.
“That’s what started it off,” he reminisced Friday, as he walked along a crest of a hill overlooking the lake where he and his family now own 155 acres known as Lakeside DFW.

Debi Amon says
Why is the new construction on Long Prairie and Lakeside Pkwy hugging the road? It seems inconsistent with the rest of the town and leaves little green space or room for sidewalks.

Debi,
Thanks for your question.
The intent of the mixed-use zoning ordinance that governs Lakeside DFW is to create a walkable retail environment.
To do so, Lakeside will be transformed from a major aerial with speed limits of 35-45 mph to a shopping avenue with slower speeds that will allow people to feel comfortable crossing on foot. Instead of six lanes, there will be only four through lanes while the third lane will be converted into slant-in parking.
The parking spots and the sidewalks (at least 8’ wide) will feature trees and provide a buffer between car traffic and the buildings.

You can rest assured that the buildings conform with Flower Mound’s applicable ordinances. The Town staff is well aware of all the plans and they inspect all aspects of construction.
