The Shops at Lakeside — a special place to dine, by design
The October 2017 opening of Mena’s Grill & Tex-Mex Cantina rounds out Lakeside’s current menu of restaurant offerings and its selection of delectable dining spots.
There’s Brazilian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and American cuisine, each with its own distinctive setting.
It all started in October 2015, when Paulo and Cecilia Novaes opened Carvao Prime Brazilian Steak House at the corner of Lakeside and FM 2499.
Guests gain a sense of the fine-dining experience awaiting them as they walk to the restaurant’s front door along a small park adorned with a fountain.
Very quickly Carvao’s outstanding food and service suggested that Lakeside would have something special to offer diners in and around Flower Mound.
In February 2016, Paradise Bistro & Coffee Co. opened on the opposite side of the park fronting Carvao. Serving all three essential meals, Paradise became a hit with those looking for great American options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Its patio became the first Lakeside establishment to offer sidewalk dining.
Then in 2017, when three new restaurants opened, Lakeside’s appeal as a dining destination shifted into high gear.
Mio Nonno Trattoria introduced authentic Italian flavors to Lakeside in April along with an upbeat atmosphere and a large patio offering views of the plaza (and the Lakeside Music Series on Friday nights).
And its reputation spread quickly, drawing lots of enthusiastic diners.
Hanaya opened on the northeast corner of the plaza in June. Hibachi chefs put on a show every meal in one section of the restaurant while customers enjoy sushi and asian fusion crafted by artisan chefs in the other.
Finally in October, Mena brought to Lakeside those most basic of North Texas requirements: Tex-Mex food and margaritas. And, nearly as important, Mena’s patio and indoor-outdoor bar offer a fresh take on dining al fresco.
But outdoor eating experiences aren’t limited to the restaurants.
Epic Gelato, which opened in 2015 has become a popular hang-out and gathering spot. Specializing in gourmet coffee and gelato made daily, Epic’s patio attracts patrons eager to soak in the urban vibrations.
And Starbucks, which opened in Lakeside in 2016, features a large covered patio with lots of comfortable furniture.
The year 2017 also saw the opening of The Market at Lakeside, which gives residents a chance to shop for groceries and prepared foods without having to jump in their cars. And yes, The Market also offers a charming outdoor seating area.
When it comes to atmosphere and cuisine, Lakeside offers the best of both.
